Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus might launch in May

Late last year, Snapdragon revamped its entire processor lineup. Instead of the traditional series, the company created a refreshed lineup starting with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. However, some things still don’t change. According to a new report, Qualcomm is still gearing up for an upgraded version of the newly launched processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus.

Reported by OnSiteGo, Qualcomm will launch the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus sometime in May. Additionally, instead of using Samsung’s 4nm node, the upcoming chipset will use TSMC’s version of the same architecture. TSMC’s version is reportedly more efficient than Samsung’s.

When the chipset launches, the first smartphones rocking the chip will launch in June. The initial batch will come from Lenovo, Motorola, OnePlus, and Xiaomi.

Additionally, Qualcomm is also launching a new lineup of Snapdragon 700 chips around the same time. Come May, the company is heavily expanding its lineup of processors to accommodate more efficient devices.

A Plus version of the current Snapdragon chipset is a regular release for Qualcomm. However, with a distinct change in the upcoming one, future flagships might have a huge leg up compared to current flagships. With the chip shortage still taking the industry over, each new flagship, armed with more powerful and rarer chips, does mean a lot for consumers.
