Apple’s next MacBook might be two iPads stuck together

Memes have always often ridiculed foldable devices as two smartphones just taped together. Given the size, such a comparison makes sense. Now, what happens if a foldable smartphone expands to the size of a full-grown notebook? Apparently, Apple has the same idea. According to sources, the company is working on a hybrid foldable device combining a MacBook and an iPad.

Via Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the upcoming foldable device comes in a gigantic 20-inch screen. However, instead of a traditional MacBook-like hinge, it will feature a foldable screen. While one side will still act as the device’s display, the other side turns into a touchscreen keyboard.

The source indicates that the device is already making its rounds in the supply chain, potentially signaling that Apple is already past just conceptualization. However, Gurman notes that it isn’t coming any time soon. The foldable MacBook will launch sometime in 2026, still some ways away from now.

This isn’t Apple’s first trip to the foldable market, though. Multiple sources have persistently speculated on a foldable iPhone coming soon. With news of a foldable MacBook hybrid coming soon, it looks like Apple is waiting for a knockout haymaker before making its much-awaited debut to the foldable arena.

Since the supposed device is still in the supply chain, there is no guarantee that Apple is releasing the device for real. However, it does confirm the company’s strides to release a foldable device coming in the future.
