OPPO’s smart glasses, the Air Glass, is coming next year

Wearable glasses are making another push for the mainstream. After the Google Glass sank to relative obscurity, tech companies gave up their hopes for that type of wearable renaissance. Today, some companies are making another push, headlined by Meta’s upcoming AR glasses. Meta isn’t the only one. Revealed during their annual INNO Day, OPPO has revealed their own competitor, the Air Glass.

With a unique monocle design, the Air Glass relies on assisted Reality (or aR) technology. OPPO designed the glasses with a feather in mind for its design. It’s lightweight but packs in quite a beast: the Snapdragon Wear 4100 Platform.

OPPO developed its own Spark Micro Projector to put out crystal clear images whether it’s during the day, at night, or indoors. It can display images in 6-level grayscale and 256-level grayscale. The projector itself is just the size of a single coffee bean, ensuring a light frame despite all the tech underneath.

Because of its display, it can’t go as far as creating images often touted by other AR glasses. The device is meant merely to assist wearers in some functionalities. One such example is real-time translation. OPPO has confirmed that the technology can already support Mandarin Chinese to English and vice versa.

Another possible application is navigation. OPPO is reportedly working with Baidu for such functionalities. Finally, the company also sees the device as a teleprompter tool.

It can currently pair up with OPPO smartphones with ColorOS 11 and the OPPO Watch 2.

The OPPO Air Glass is set to debut sometime in the first quarter of 2022 in China.
