iPhone 14 will have a punch-hole camera, rumor says

It’s time for the annual “is the notch gone from next year’s iPhone” rumor. Every year, a new rumor speculates on Apple adopting a new form factor to get rid of the still-controversial camera notch. This year is no different. However, with things happening as of late, is next year finally bringing a notch-less iPhone 14?

This time, the rumor comes from Korean publication TheElec. According to the report, next year’s iPhones will have a hybrid variety of displays. The two non-Pro iPhone models will have the iconic camera notch. Meanwhile, the two Pro models will sport a new punch-hole camera.

The Korean publication reports that LG hopes to supply Apple with the necessary LTPO OLED screens for next year’s display. This year, Apple already introduced LTPO screens for the iPhone 13 series, supplied from Samsung.

With how punch-hole displays are today, an iPhone 14 with a punch-hole camera should have a disappearing function already. It’s highly likely that the notch will turn into a screen if the camera is not in use. However, we don’t know if the rumor is true — much less if Apple is including a disappearing function to the eventual camera.

Regardless, the progress of punch-hole cameras nowadays shows how Apple has lagged behind in terms of display. Apple does have some pretext for adopting a new screen. The current notched screen has existed since the iPhone X days. The company hasn’t revamped its designs for a while now. Adding fuel to the fire, renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also hinted at the new form factor earlier this year.
