Will Xiaomi recall the Redmi 9T and POCO M3 nationwide?

The lawmaker said that buyers have complained against recurring dead boot issues on the telephone units they purchased, particularly new ones. were advised to direct their complaints to the Department of Trade and Industry.

To recall, Xiaomi Philippines told team GIZGUIDE that the boot loop issue for the POCO M3 and Redmi 9T is being addressed. Customers who are experiencing the dead boot issue within the warranty period are encouraged to take note of the incident and contact Xiaomi via email or calls.

However, Nograles thinks that Xiaomi's efforts to solve this problem are not enough.

Xiaomi's steps to address the issue are not just too late but also too inconvenient. The dead boot issue has been happening for months and what they are offering are just repair or replacement with the same model, said Nograles.

Nograles added that buyers find themselves without telephones to use for days and even for weeks.

We need to stop this unending inconvenience; it is about time they recall these problematic phone models and give the victims newer phone units that do not have issues, said Nograles, vice chairman of the House Committee on Justice.

We don't know if the other units that are currently not affected by dead boot will have issues in the future. The consumer will be put in a worse situation if it happens beyond the warranty period. This is why we call on Xiaomi to recall the phones instead and make things right, he explained.

We know that Xiaomi's rise to fame is due to their brand of selling quality phones for low prices. Sadly, their reputation is tarnished with this dead boot issue. They should act fast as they are not the sole brand that offers affordable phones. They might lose their market share if this issue persists, Nograles warned

The lawmaker suggested that the options should either be a unit replacement or a full refund.

He is also worried that those who were affected by the issue are students doing online classes.

To those who don't know, dead boot simply means that a handset cannot be powered on, placed to download mode, or detected when connected to a personal computer. This could either be a software or hardware issue.

Xiaomi has yet to release a new statement about the matter.
