Back in September, Samsung launched the ISOCELL HP1 image sensor. It is the first mobile image sensor with 200MP 'ultra-high' resolution with 0.64μm-sized pixels. The new sensor uses the company's ChameleonCell technology that uses pixel-binning two-by-two, four-by-four, or full pixel layout 'depending on the environment.' It also per 16 neighbouring pixels to make the sensor capable of improved light absorption and sensitivity that results in brighter and clearer photos in the dark.
The HP1 is also capable of capturing 8K videos at 30fps with minimal loss in the field of view. It also takes advantage of merging four neighbouring pixels to 50MP or 8,192 x 6144 to take 8K footage without a crop.
In a recent tweet, prolific leaker Ice Universe claims that Moto will be the first to adopt this new sensor in 2022. Xiaomi will be next during the second half of 2022 while Samsung will allegedly adopt its own 200MP technology in 2023.
Whether this information is true or not is still up in the air as we will only truly know once Moto, Xiaomi and Samsung make an official announcement. Take this information with a grain of salt.
Recently, Samsung recently confirmed that the company is working on a 600MP camera for smartphones during TECNO's recent webinar.
