Facebook adds a dedicated COVID-19 facts comment attachment button

Facebook is a pretty go-to source for most people these days about news, entertainment, and even COVID-19 updates.

World Health Organization materials as the source

Since the COVID-19 hit the world, Facebook has also continuously exerted its efforts to combat fake news about the pandemic and vaccines. Features such as a prompt before a user can share a COVID-19 or vaccine-related article showing the publish date of the article, redirecting users to World Health Organization (WHO) information, and so on are just a few of the concrete examples of Facebook's active way in helping social media users to get the right pandemic guidance.

Yesterday, a typical workday for the GIZGUIDE team, I was about to reply to a comment when I was prompted by a Facebook to attach COVID-19 information to my comment. Below is what I got upon clicking the dedicated button.

I was faced with a handful of WHO information about the different aspects of COVID-19 information, symptoms, vaccines, etc. The post that I was going to reply to a comment to was a casual photo of my friend with a caption urging people to get RT-PCR or antigen tests before meeting up with people outside their household. Hence, the dedicated reliable COVID-19 information button popped up.

We noticed that the button is only available on posts related to COVID-19 whether from a news outlet or a simple user. The "more info" button takes us to Facebook's COVID-19 information center for facts about the coronavirus.

According to Facebook, the facts about COVID-19 that they provide to users are "from leading health organizations. The correct common, untrue rumors about COVID-19."

Amid the pandemic, Facebook updates such as the Care button, Avatars, prayer feature, and partnership with DOH happened just in time when people need it.

What do you think about this feature?

Tell us in the comments with a COVID-19 fact attachment since we're sure it will be available because this article mentions the Coronavirus. *wink*
