Apple Watch is getting a car crash detection feature

Tales of Apple’s accurate fall detection have spread throughout the internet since the feature was developed. Because Apple’s devices can detect if a user falls, the company has helped saved users from precarious situations by automatically alerting medical authorities. Apple is going a step further by reportedly working on a crash detection feature for the Apple Watch.

As reported by The Wall Street Journal, Apple is working on the feature for both the iPhone and the Apple Watch. With the feature, both devices can detect when the user is in a car crash and can automatically call 911.

Several brands already have the feature built into their software. Google, for example, has the Personal Safety app inside its Pixel phones which does the same thing. Though the feature is already prevalent, having another brand implement the feature will ensure that everyone has the same set of tools to save them in an emergency.

Apple is still working on the car crash detection feature for now. According to the report, the company is planning to roll the feature out next year. However, the report does not indicate if Apple will ship the feature out in a software update or release a new device with the feature in tow.
