Xiaomi becomes top smartphone brand in Europe

As is now apparent, Xiaomi is experiencing a massive surge in popularity. In a recent smartphone brand ranking, the Chinese smartphone maker overtook Samsung as the second largest brand in the world. Xiaomi is filling in the gap left behind by Huawei’s descent down the rankings. Now, another ranking confirms Xiaomi’s race. The company is now the best smartphone seller in Europe.

According to Strategy Analytics, Xiaomi once again stole a better spot from Samsung in the rankings. For the second quarter of 2021, the company shipped 12.7 million units and captured 25.3 percent of the market share. Meanwhile, Samsung is lagging a bit behind with only 24 percent of the market share. Apple is in third with 19.2 percent of the market. OPPO and realme have the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.

Even more impressive is Xiaomi’s growth compared to last year. According to the ranking, the company grew a whopping 67.1 percent from last year. Surprisingly, the current number 2 dropped by 7 percent compared to last year. All other companies in the rankings experienced growth over the past year.

Of note, three of the top five brands are Chinese companies. For the past few years, Huawei has declined in the ranks, owing to the still-ongoing bans from the United States. Since then, Huawei’s rivals have rushed to capture the market they left behind.
