Meet HP Spectre x360 (2021) - A great school or work companion

Work-from-home and online classes are the new normal. Have you found the right laptop for you yet?

This is the HP Spectre x360 (2021)

If not, we suggest you take a look at the HP Spectre x360 (2021). Coming from its previous model, HP made a few upgrades in terms of design and hardware. And we think that this laptop may be a capable contender for students and young professionals looking for a solid school or work companion.

After a month-long use of this device, we are ready to share our experience with the HP Spectre x360 (2021).

Meet HP Spectre x360 (2021)

What's inside the box?

The device came with a minimalist-looking box with the name of the brand on top. Inside is the HP Spectre x360 (2021), the 65W power brick, a chic fabric-braided power cable, and a leather sleeve.

Note: Our model unit did not come with a free HP stylus pen.

Looks premium!

Out of the box, the laptop looks stunning. We have the Natural Silver color but it is also available in Nightfall Black and Poseidon Blue. It has an aluminum-made chassis with stylish gem-cut corners. The laptop is also very easy to carry with only 1.27kg in weight and 17 x 307 x 196 mm in measurement.

Premium look, premium feel!

On the top center, it has the metallic HP logo.

Bottom - speakers, rubber feet, regulatory info

While on the bottom, it houses the Bang & Olufsen speakers, a few rubber feet for better grip, and the regulatory info.
Left side - power switch, audio jack, USB-A port

On the left, you'll find the power switch on its diagonal corner, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a USB 3.1 Type-A port (which is a nice addition for such a slim-build laptop).
Right side - microSD card slot, webcam switch, 2 USB Type-C ports, LED indicator

On the right, a microSD card slot, a webcam kill switch, a Thunderbolt 4/USB Type-C port, and an LED indicator. On its diagonal corner, we have another Thunderbolt 4/USB Type-C port that doubles as the power port.
Bright and vibrant display

When opened up, you'll be greeted with its bright and vibrant 13.3-inch FHD IPS touchscreen, surrounded by the thin top and side bezels and a thicker chin bezel. On the top center, it houses the barely noticeable 720p webcam.
Snappy keys!

The keyboard is large and snappy enough, it is also backlit making it easier to use in the dark. The touchpad is pretty wide and responsive too. On the bottom right, you'll have the fingerprint scanner which you can use for added security.
Tablet mode
Tablet mode

As the name carries, this laptop can be tilted to 360 degrees on its hinges, making it a tablet-like device. The touchscreen is responsive enough but using it in a tablet mode makes it heavier compared to standard tablets such as iPads. It depends on your preference on whatever mode you'd like to use it. For us, we liked it better as a laptop.

The 13.3-inch 1920 x 1080 IPS touchscreen has decent contrast, accurate colors, and viewing angles are looking good too with clear details as expected on a 1080p resolution.

High-end Bang & Olufsen speakers

For audio, it has the bottom-mounted high-end Bang & Olufsen speakers which do not produce loud music but still sounds pretty good within a close range. It lacks on bass like most laptops, but not tinny even at max volume.

You can also tweak the audio controls with the built-in Bang & Olufsen app.
Intel® Evo™ sticker
Intel® Evo™ sticker

Along with the laptop, you'll see an Intel Evo sticker. And when you see that sticker on any laptop, you'll know you're getting premium specs. And sure enough, this laptop not only looks good but also feels good to use.

Inside, it is powered by the 11th Gen Intel Core i7 processor with Intel Iris Xe Graphics, 16GB LPDDR4x RAM, 512GB internal storage, and 60WHr battery capacity.

It did not show any disappointment!

The HP Spectre x360 (2021) performs great in real-life use and did not show any disappointment. With our daily use, we had multiple tabs opened on Edge, alongside Photoshop app, yet it did not slow down the laptop's performance.

For battery life, it has a 60WHr battery capacity with 65W charging support via Type-C cable.

In our experience, this laptop has one of the longest battery life we've ever tested.

It takes only an hour and a half to have the device fully charged. In our typical use of web browsing, watching YouTube videos, and editing photos and videos, it lasted for about 6 hours.

For thermals, we did experience it get warm and uncomfortable to touch when we used it for editing videos in Adobe Premiere Pro but not to an alarming extent. Even when charging, thermals are kept to reasonable levels.

We did not have any problems regarding connectivity with its Intel WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5. Internet connectivity is fast and stable, and the Bluetooth connection is reliable.

Premium look and premium feel!

The HP Spectre x360 is a premium laptop suitable for professionals and students looking for a work/school companion. Not only that, what makes it a powerful laptop is its killer specs. The 11th Gen Intel Core i7 processor with Intel Iris Xe Graphics, 16GB LPDDR4X RAM, 512GB internal storage make it an impressive and solid convertible laptop.

Overall, we loved the experience this laptop has offered us. Its lightweight build makes it easier for travel and the 1080p touchscreen helped speed up our creative work. We think it's a good choice for young professionals who travel a lot and students in need of a 2-in-1 convertible laptop.

It is unclear as of now what the price of this laptop is here in the Philippines. But, premium specs surely come with a premium price tag.

Following its predecessors, we think this laptop will be priced between PHP 65,000 to PHP 80,000. It is pricey but it can be a good investment if you really need a convertible work laptop with capable specs.

Stay tuned!
