iPhone SE 3 will launch with 5G and A15 chip, report says

Apple is finally leaving 4G in the dust next year. According to a new report, the company is packing in 5G connectivity for its entire 2022 lineup. Though they have already launched their first 5G devices with last year’s iPhone 12 series, Apple is adding one more member to the 5G family: the iPhone SE.

Last year, Apple resurrected the iPhone SE, bringing an iPhone experience to more budget-conscious users. The smartphone both enamored users and helped Apple survive the tumultuous pandemic. Naturally, everyone was wondering if and when Apple will launch a successor. According to recent reports, the company is gearing for a 2022 release for the device.

Now, according to Nikkei Asia, the upcoming iPhone SE will launch with 5G connectivity, marking an important upgrade for the series. Further, it will reportedly come with Apple’s A15 processor and, for connectivity, Qualcomm’s X60 modem.

In other news, the report also confirms that the iPhone 12 mini will not get a successor next year (or maybe even this year, for that matter). Instead, Apple is replacing the fourth smartphone in the lineup with a 6.7-inch iPhone Pro Max variant.

Since the iPhone 12 series’ launch last year, the iPhone 12 mini has performed poorly, undercutting Apple’s expectations for the model. As such, it is likely that the company is indeed phasing the model out after a brief stint in the sun. Apple has already cut down supply and production for the model.
