Honor CEO confirms Snapdragon 888 Plus phone is coming

When Honor finally split off from Huawei, the Chinese company also freed itself from the latter’s American-born restrictions. As was rumored earlier this year, Honor gained the ability to use formerly banned components including Snapdragon chipsets. Today, Honor has confirmed that its next slew smartphone will indeed have the latest Snapdragon 888 Plus chipset.

In a recent talk during the Global CEO Tech Talk, Honor CEO George Zhao teased the upcoming Magic3 series. As mentioned above, the biggest revelation was the series’ chipset. The series will wield the year’s top Snapdragon chipset once it launches. Both the Magic3 and the Magic3 Pro will come with the processor.

Besides the processor, Zhao also revealed another meaning to the series’ name. Magic refers to “magic hour,” a sweet spot for photographers to take photos. It’s the 15- to 20-minute window before sunset and after sunrise wherein the sky is lit up just right to take astonishing photos. It often results in a pink or pink-gold sky.

The naming scheme suggests that the series will focus on photography as well. We’ll need more information about the camera to tell.

However, amid the camera’s uncertainty, Zho confirms that “magic hour” informs how the series’ two colors are called: Blue Hour and Golden Hour.
